　第２次ネオジオン紛争では、ネオ・ジオン軍の総帥として、ジオンの名を受け継ぐ意志を表明している。


　名前が有名な割に、実体がよく知られていないキャラクター。名前が有名というか、ジオンの息子として有名ということになるのだろうか。
　'04年10月号の「ガンダムエース」で、安彦良和さんが「シャア・セイラ編」を描く、と、公表してから、俄然、シャアファンの間で騒がしくなり、ネットのあちこちでこの話題がもちきりであるが、シャアは、生き方が生き方であるだけに、今回安彦さんが宣言するかなり前から、シャアの過去、すなわちキャスバルについて表現しているファンが大勢いた。ベールに包まれた半透明なシャアの過去が、逆にファンに愛着度を増させていた。
　個人的な気持ちでは、安彦さんがシャアの過去にまで掘り下げて描くことはないのではないか、と、思うのだが、「ガンダム史実」の上では、ジオン・ダイクンの存在の明確性は必要性の高い部分であるので、シャアの過去ではなく、「ジオンの過去」という意味合いでは必要かな、と、思う。
　シャアの過去については、遊びの部分であって欲しかったというのが正直なところで、今度の「シャア・セイラ編」には、複雑な気持ちが一杯である。でも、公式な場でキャスバルの実体が明らかになるならば、それはそれで受け止めて、その上で遊ぼうと、思っている、現在の私の心境である。
